Noemí being from Bierzo, with a grandfather who was an amateur wine maker, we have tasted our share of Bierzo wines. Most recently Vinicio (crianza and reserva), and Hombros (photo in another post). While I enjoy Vinicio Reserva, I am having some harder time with the crianza, which is rare for me, I tend to enjoy crianzas a lot…Anyways, I am happy when I read about Bierzo in the NY Times. They had a tasting a few years back, and now they were at it again. They have some good ones, but they are missing on some great wines, too!
Here is the first ever Bierzo column, a more recent one (march 2009) and a permalink to an entry in Frank Rich’s blog. One thing they haven’t done is try the Bierzo whites, which is made from Godella, a grape variety used in Galicia, and are very fresh and getting better by the vintage! With semana santa coming up, you can expect a post on one special use of Bierzo wines, soon!
